Silence, disconnection and wanderlust at Sognefjellet
Sognefjellet was an important transport artery linking the coast and inland areas. Today, it is a part of the Norwegian Scenic Route network and runs from Lom to Gaupne, a total distance of 108 km. From here, visitors can catch a glimpse of towering mountains in the far distance during the summer. There are also an infinite number of hiking options and it is a spectacular experience on a bike. The cycling route coincides with National Route 6, the section that runs along Lustrafjorden is signposted. Sognefjellshytta is one of the many attractions along Sognefjellet. The lodge is located where the Norwegian Scenic Route reaches its highest point at 1.400 metres.

The Lodalen Valley is one of the most beautiful valleys in the country. The Fjord horse is one of the oldest breeds in the world, with origins in the Viking Age. This type of horse was developed in western Norway and for many years was known as “the Westlands horse”. The landscape of western Norway is characterized by long fjords, steep mountains and rough terrain, and until quite recently, surefooted horses were an absolute necessity of life.

Veiholmen – a gem near the Atlantic Ocean
The fishing village of Veiholmen is located towards the northernmost tip of the island Smøla and is linked to the main island by a road that with its bridges, landfills and protective breakwaters is an adventure in itself. Veiholmen is a lively fishing village with fishing boats arriving with their catches and the gulls and sea eagles hovering overhead in their quest for food. You can stay in a fully renovated boathouse with original beams dating back to the 1770, or in cosy guesthouses. Drawn towards the windows, all with charming sea views, you may find yourself spending some time in front of these watching the ocean beyond the manmade breakwater protecting Veiholmen.

Hike in lunar landscapes & Stand Up Paddling on smooth water 

A unique experience is to be sleeping in a hammock in a tunnel in Tunnelstuo with magnificent views to Jøssingfjord. In addition to hiking in lunar landscapes in Magma UNESCO Global Geopark it is also possible to visit the famous houses of Helleren.
