The national tourism strategy supports well the course for
Fjord Norway
- common interests are clear!

Innovation Norway was commissioned by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Fisheries in January 2020 to develop a general strategy for the development of Norwegian tourism and Norway as a travel destination. The mandate was to provide guidance for further development by emphasizing what has to be done to support a sustainable development, profitable travel companies, more jobs and a year round tourism. The strategy was presented to Iselin Nybø, Minister of Trade and Industry, on May 6 2021.

Fjord Norway is satisfied with the proposal for a national strategy, it is future-oriented and contains good, long-term measures that will strengthen value creation in the tourism industry and local communities in Norway and in Western Norway.

The strategy and measures are in line with Fjord Norway's already begun work to develop Western Norway's attractiveness as a destination through sustainability.

Fjord Norge AS is concerned with supporting the UN's sustainability goals and the company contributes to the tourism industry in Western Norway making sustainable choices. The scenario project that was carried out in 2018/2019 in collaboration with the West Norway Council lays down guidelines for the development of sustainable tourism up to 2030.

Sustainability is about the tourism industry contributing to Western Norway being a good place to live, a good place to visit, and that it is a good place to run a business within tourism - now and in the future.

We work to increase value creation in the Fjord Norway region through increased profitability and create more all year round and full-time jobs in the industry.

We work to increase the ripple effects of tourism on the region. We help ensure that the guests who come here and the locals are happy. And we help reduce the climate footprint. This is in line with the direction of the national tourism strategy.

Fjord Norway contributes consistently in everything we do to develop a year-round tourism and avoid over-tourism in the high season. Furthermore, Fjord Norge AS/Fjord Norway works to ensure that guests who visit the region stay longer, visit more places and use more of the offers. The company helps to highlight green and sustainable offers in the region to make them better known to consumers and tour operators.

The proposal for a national tourism strategy is well rooted in the tourism industry through the fact that both small and large players in the industry have been involved in designing the content. It is now important that politicians support the strategy through powerful measures.

We also believe that our knowledge of the region and our advice on hidden gems, experiences and accommodation that tourists may not find themselves, will help you as a tour operator / travel agent to be more attractive to your clients and customers and to be seen as a valuable provider of trips.

Product Manual Fjord Norway 2020-21
Our main tool, Product Manual Fjord Norway 2020/21. will make it easy for you to be inspired and
informed to choose destinations and companies in our region, and be able to adapt it to your customer segments. You will find a presentation of each destination, with a listing of accommodation, attractions, activities and transport – and our goal is that this manual shall be a useful tool when you are making itineraries for the region.

Our e-catalogue allows us to offer a live product with both movies and links to further information. A printed version will be available when outreach and physical B2B activities become possible again. Whether you have a full Fjord Norway program or just some parts of our region, or if you must find new destinations, markets and target groups – our aim is to provide you with new ideas!

Romsdalen Gondola newly opened!
A new way to experience the fantastic views of the mountains and fjord in Romsdalen has just opened! Just up from the town centre of Åndalsnes, and surrounded by the famous Romsdal mountains, you will arrive at the top of Nesaksla mountain, at 708 m.a.s.l.

The Romsdal gondola, a state-of-the-art electric cable car, takes you 1679 meters up the mountainside from the fjord. This is also Norway's first gondola built on sustainability principles. A 360-degree view of the impressive Romsdalshorn, Vengetindene, Åndalsnes town centre, lush valleys and the emerald green Rauma river awaits you at the top. In the restaurant (opening July 2021), you can enjoy the view along with a delicious meal. You can also explore the area at the top, with short walks that lead to several viewing points.
